I have received an email attachment with a .eml extension.
When I open it there is another file to be opened or saved with the title 'SuffolkDaveys.1584.411.binary'
I cannot open it and my searches have lead me to this site. The file is about family tree info. It seems to be into programmer territory.
Any help with a procedure to open it would be appreciated.

The .EML file extension is used by Outlook Express for stationery.

First off, .eml is the file format used when Outlook or Outlook Express export an email; this can even be the case if an existing email is dragged into another one just being composed.

Next, I would assume the attachment named SuffolkDaveys.1584.411.binary would be containing the family tree info, but the file format is not known publicly and may not originate from a Windows system (as those usually have file types ending in three or less letters). I think it would be best if you send an email to the author of both the email containing the binary and the one that contains the .EML attachment, and ask them about the software needed to open the binary file.

Have you tried dropping the file on Stiffit Expander? We get these types of files from time to time and the print business I work at. 9 our of 10 times, attempting to decompress the file works like a charm ;)

.eml would often occur if a mail bounces back and the bouncer's mailer daemon does use Outlook Express (or an alike) program to handle bounces. This would generally wrap your sent mail in the mailer daemon's reply and call it an .eml file. open it with outlook express and all would be fine :) .

Also, be careful when opening such files as .eml coz there have been cases of Viruses spread as .eml
By default, the Outlook Express manager disables viewing the contents of .eml so dont bother opening the file if there is no strong reason to.

I'm receiving the .eml file extension in the exchange from the symantec antivirus. Any ideas? As for stiffit, there's no such program, I think you mean stuffit, right?
