The White Australia policy was a "policy" established in 1901 to keep Australia "race pure". It was claimed that this would reduce racial tensions and avoid conflict. There was also a fear that Australia would be overrun by Asian's, in particular Chinese. To gain entry people had to undergo certain tests, usually literacy and language... and also impossible for "non-whites" to pass. One more fear was that immigrants would work for cheaper labour, effectively putting white Australians out of the work force.

The White Australia policy is a policy that was a major cause in the decision of federation. It generally means that Australia didnt want any differnet colour people, except white, to keep the European Heritage pure. It was also introduced because it was cheaper to pay Asians and other immigrants so employers were giving them the job instead to Australians. This is why they introduced the policy

racism, run and owned by whites, white race policy, no black/coloured/others/italians spanish, violence against everyone else.

during the gold rush era (1850's) migrants from all over the world flocked australia, seeking gold setting up bussinesses.

chinese immigrated to make living. they were blamed by white for economic problems after the gold started to run out. the chinese had a stronger work ethic then their aussie counterparts. cultural differences saw australians becoming suspicious of in creased hostility towards all migrants and acts of violence.

some thing that happend with the white australia policy

the white australian policy was never written down and was to keep people away who where not white, anyone from non white countrys such as china where not allowed to enter australia, if they where not white they where given a dictation test which was given in any language so was near impossible for the person to pass the test unless they where white.

the white australian ploicy stated in 1901 because of to many chineses imagrents. we had to maney imagrents because australian stated to run out of british priseners to let work on farms and in mines so the chinese were brought over to do there jobs.by 1957 the population was so hight that in 1958 N.S.W. passed a law stoping them comeing into there state and by 1901 all of australia had passed the same law so the white austalian policey stated before world war 2.

the white Australia policy was a greatly racist policy in the 1900's. It supported the idea that whites were different from blacks, Asians were different from British etc. Australia was hugely afraid of loosing its British heritage, in a day and age were Australia was 'a working mans paradise' we were being swamped by people who wanted to make a better life for themselves and thus, came here. although we didn't want to be over-run by non-white people, we still managed to bring in people from other countries-against their will-and sell them as slaves. These people were forced to sign a contract whereby they would stay in our country and work on farms etc for usually 3years, after which time they would be forced to go back to their Land of heritage. People coming into our country would be put through tests-tests that couldn't possibly passed by a non-white person..and that was the idea, we wanted a larger population to better our economy, but we didn't want to be over-run by Asians-Chinese usually-and other non-British people. we would-sometimes- let in people from Asia and Europe, but British people were our preference...australia was racist...

White Australia policy is a immigration laws from the 1850s until the early 1970s.
it was made to belief that the non-white races were inferior to white races and that Australia should be a country consisting only of white people.
