Please Help Me!

I have been searching the WWW to find an answer to my question and I have had no luck!
I am getting the error message "Could not open 'file name' because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete)" when I try to open my images after saving them to a CD. But this only happens when I have saved my images on a PC and try to open them on my Mac. I am a second year photography student at university and my work is getting really important so I want to stop this from happening so I don't loose any more of my work!
Nobody seems to know where the problem is coming from and no-one else is having the same problem as me.
Could anyone tell me what is causing this problem and how can I fix it!?!

Please Help!

Becca

I had a similar problem today. I created files, jpg files in Photoshop, that can be viewed on my PC computer but could not be viewed from the CD I made of them on my PC; I do not own a MAC. As it turns out, even though the files, directories and such on the CD appear identical to that on my PC the files on the CD did not contain any data -- the bytes of the files on the CD were all NULL. The error I received was the same one as yours. A file compare on the same file on the CD versus the PC showed me this. An editor that can read and display the contents by values of a file also revealed the NULL contents of data on the CD and thus the error when reading from the CD. The problem was that for some reason files were not really written to the CD. In my case I believe the problem was because the file names of the folders of files which I wished to transfer to the CD were too long in character length. Hope this helps!

Just another twist to this problem. I have burned images to cds or dvd+rw discs off my computer. The images will read just fine for a while off the dvd. Just this last week I tried to read them off the dvd and got the message "JPEG marker segment length is too short.....". These worked fine before, so I'm not sure how they just become corrupt.

I got the same message from Jpegs I tried to open for editing in Photoshop. I found I could open the offending pics in another editing program. ( I tried both ACDSee and Arcsoft with success.) I simply re-saved, (File, Save as...)replacing the original, and the new copy opened just fine.

I confirm that saving images which have been opened with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and then saved as a "JPEG" image to a CD or DVD will not open in Photoshop. If when you open the image with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer you select "Open with" and Photoshop you should then save it to a hard disk not a CD or DVD

I have just had the same problem and it's really bad that it happens.
I work on a PC and for some reason the same thing happened as what you both are talking about.
If anyone knows how to fix it please get back to us.. These files are really important

Okay so I finally got around to dealing with this problem. My conclusion is this is an Adobe issue. Any other program (not Adobe) will open my files with the jpeg marker too short. So I opened the file, saved as .bmp or other file, then reopened the file in Adobe as a .bmp. So far this has worked. Maybe this will help you too?

Maybe you guys are having a problem with your CD burner, or maybe with the brand of CD you're burning the files on. Try burning your imagines with a different burner (or burner program), and / or using a different CD and see what happens. If you still can't resolve the problem, you can always upload your imagines to an FTP on the net and then download them when you need them.
