to train to become a midwife you must be at least 17 and a half. Apply to the NMAS (nursing and midwifery admissions service) and go from there. Apply to work and train at your local hospital

Hello everyone. I have always wanted to be a midwife and finally having my two children and at the age of 23 I feel now is the time. Although I have to get my qualifications to get into uni. So next year is when I'm aiming to start training and as my youngest daughter is only 6 months it couldn't really be any earlier. Has anyone any advice on juggling kids and study/career? I would really appreciate your advice, I feel a little scared!!

Midwifery is a very complicated job but if you put your mind into it then you will become one. But also remember that you have to do so much more training before you are even considered into being interviewed to become a midwife. Don't worry you'll all get there if you try!

You Don't have to be 21! I am hoping to gain a career in midwifery. there are a number of routes to go down to achieve this. You can do your nurse training 1st then 18months extra to qualify as a midwife or you can do either a degree or diploma in midwifery! (3-4yrs at Uni)
I cant wait!!! Gd Luck!x

you have to either do a diploma at university or a degree. you only need gcses to do a diploma, for a degree you need anything from 180 ucas points to 320. depending on where you want to go.

There are many routes that you can go through to becoming a midwife. I am currrently 18 years old and studying 3 A-levels. The preferred subjects are biology, sociology and psychology but these are only preferred and are not essentially needed!
I am going to university to do a degree in midwifery. I only chose this way because i feel that it is a quicker approach to being a midwife and although it is more academic than the diploma route you still have a hands on approach to learning.
Again though you can apply to university to do the diploma. This is mainly for people who prefer to learn visually. By seeing what other midwives do and is a more hands on approach then the degree route. It also takes about the same amount of time.
If you not wish to go to university then you can also apply to go on a nurses course. This may take a few years to complete as you have to build up to become a qualified nurse before applying to become a midwife. As soon as you've reached a proffesional and qualified stage of nursing you can apply and convert to midwifery which only takes around 18 months. In any situation though, whether you go to university or not you have to do around 40 births at least before you can be considered a professional.
Many people suggest becoming a nurse before going into the midwifery field but this is not a nescessity.
Hope this has helped!

hello everyone,
I want to become a midwife too. I don't know much about becoming one but this is what i do know!
I know that you have to be 17 and a half to train to become a midwife and you definately need to go to college and university.
You need to have 5 GCSE's 3 of which have to be English, maths and one Science.
After passing your GCSE's you then have to go to college to get at least 2 A levels. After that then you have to go to university and do a diploma in midwifery.
I think i got that right!!!!
