I have a big red bubble like thing on the top of my bellybutton piercing. I've had this done for 3 months now. So does that mean that i have to remove my jewelry since i have an infection?

this is sometimes part of the healing, it doesn't necessarily mean you have an infection. just wash it more and massage the area to stimulate blood there and make the healing process go faster.

get some A & D ointment and some non iodized sea salt. Wash it with antibacterial soap then rinse with the salt water. Keep A & D ointment on it and wash your hands before you or any one else touches it.

You do not have to remove your belly button ring!  This happened to me after a month or so, the red bump is bacteria trapped in your pearcing.  Just have a bath in epson salt and let it soak your belly ring and work it through a couple of times and then rinse.  Also you can buy non sented liqiud soap (soft soap works really good!) and work the soap through when you have a shower then rinse it good.  I've had mine for 5 months now and it looks great!!  Hope i helped :)

These "bubbles", or pockets of fluid, are cysts, small areas of white blood cells that are trying (and probably failing) to fight infection... I know this from personal experience.  My advice is to speak to your doctor and ask for a strong orally administered antibiotic.  Your infection, now that it has developed a cyst, is likely to get much, MUCH worse before it gets better, resulting in unsightly scarring, and bizarre peeling- if you're lucky.  If you aren't lucky, the piercing could grow out of your skin, leaving a horrible scar.  DON'T remove the piercing until you see your doctor or the skin will heal over the cyst, leaving a really yucky pocket of ooze inside your belly button surface and a thick scar bump.  I'm not trying to scare you, but it's the truth.  It happened to me, and if it weren't for antibiotics, I would have had to have my navel cut open, drained, and stitched up.
