My pitbull doesn't look as it should be because he is not eating well.  Based on my observations, he is very choosy and he looses appetite once given bones.  I use to change his foods every now and then but to no avail.  Is this a pitbull characteristic?  It is kinda hurting when he doesn't eat what I serve him and I cannot make him eat no matter how.  But he eats a little at night though.  I love this dog because I found in him the real pitbull characteristics.  please help me make my dog eat well.  I cannot show him off because he is too skinny to be a pitbull!!!

pitbull puppy didn't use to eat. i tried hamburger flavored dog food, IAMs, and purina. she didn't like those. however she did eat the pedigree puppy chow and pedigree canned food. now the only thing she will eat is pedigree adult dog food.

purina is bad food, check the label and you'll see it's first few ingredience are corn or vegi based. thats no good for dogs. you need to feed chicken soup for the dog lovers soul, that is a food and it's great. it's human grade chicken and no fillers. the dog poops less and eats less but the food gives him way more nutrition. feed that or Wellness, there the best foods on the market.
I worked at a pet store and with pitbull breeders for years. i have a few myself. trust me, if you feed your dog this he will be healthy and happy and you'll be spending less and feeding lass often. but the dog will be getting way more nutrition.

Here's my story which perhaps will lead to an advice for you:  I've hand raised my pitbull pup since he arrived at my care when he was only two weeks old, since then he'll eat anything I feed him.  Until recently, he hit his 9 months of age, he started not to eat regularly, like he's become picky so sometimes he eat once a day and the food will sit there for hours.  So I became concern as well, fear that he'll starve himself, but he's not skinny or anything, the little guy is very well around 60 lbs and he's very stocky and muscular.  Anyways, I fear that he'll mal-nourish himself, I've taken the time and patience to sit there and hand feed my pit.  Amazingly, he'll eat his whole meal from the palms of my hand unfortunately it took some time and patience but I'm super happy that he did eat and for some reason, my pit is developing some personality of wanting to be spoiled.  Before using this method, I thought that maybe he's not hungry but it never fails that if I feed hand him, he'll eat for sure but if not, the food will be left for hours and a few times he won't even eat that whole day.  There could be an explanation that he probably have scavenge some food in the backyard but thats not hardly the case.  I've discovered that it never fails, he'll eat from my hand.  However, there are other options where I mixed special stuff that I know he'll love, like bits and pieces of his jerky treat or fruits like sweet apples or can dog food (very small portions) and visibly mix it into the food bowl and again, that sparks his taste buds tremendously lol.  I guess just take the time to test out some tasty stuff but never table scraps. Learn your dog's behavior and try different options.  I love my pit to the fullest, that's why I spend up to 30 minutes hand feeding his dog food.  Well Good Luck!  I'm not a professional on dogs but this is only based on my experience.  Thank-you.

No offense but I think the dog is running you. Put the kibble down in 20 min periods then take it up if he doesn t eat it this will teach him to eat it when its there its kind of tough love its not cruel just make sure you have plenty of fresh water down and stick to your guns serve only one food. The dog isn t stupid a dog will never starve itself to death if there is food there.

The biggest thing is that your pitbull has to build up an appetite.  Before trying to feed him, take him for a long walk.  I trained my pup on the treadmill, so I put her on and let her run for a little while.  Once your pit builds up an appetite, he'll eat better.  Also look at the flavor of food you're getting him.  My pup kept eating the catfood, so I bought her chicken flavored Purina Pro and she loves it.  You can also trying topping her food with a little IAMS sauce.

Too skinny to be a pitbull??  You're the exact type of owner that SHOULD NOT have a pitbull, you only have that dog for looks.
My pitbull is 60 lbs.  PERFECT as far as SHOW QUALITY standards go, and she's very petite and skinny.  And I am NOT ashamed of that fact.
If you want a muscle bound dog, and you want your dog to be huge, get a great dane, but don't spoil the pitbull breed with your machoism.

To answer your question though, my pitbull is the same way, she's very picky.  Try chicken broth (warm!) poured over it's bowl of dry dog food.  Works like a charm.  Plus there's added protein to "fatten" your "too skinny" pitbull up.
