We have a 7 year old male white shepherd and he is the biggest baby ever! He is so sweet, and affectionate, and gets along great with other animals. We also have a Jack Russell Terrier, who is the boss of the two of them, but the shepherd is extremely protective of the JR when other dogs are around. Our shepherd is very intelligent, definitely a quick learner. He's also extremely "vocal", which I've heard is common in white shepherds...not necessarily barking but moaning and yelling and hollering, like if we are ignoring him and he wants to play he tells us just what he thinks of us! My only "negative" about him is his sensitivity, he is sensitive in all manners (except physically..he has a very high pain tolerance...one time his foot got caught in a door and it ripped the nail back...he barely yelped and we didn't realize how serious it was until we saw the blood all over the kitchen floor)...anyway, he has a very sensitive stomach and digestive system, prone to diarrhea and vomiting. Not sure if this is common in all white shepherds or just ours.

Hi everyone. I am also looking to purchase a male AWS. Just thought I'd ask some people who owned them a few questions.Like how does the dog do with other dogs?Are they fast leaners?And will people with an allergic reaction to long haired dogs be affected by these dogs? We have a 12 week old female white shepherd and she is definitely a fast learner, a little head strong, great with everyone (dogs and people of all ages)...so far so good. We've had people who are allergic around her and their reaction hasn't been strong - but our hardwood floors help us keep the hair to a minimum

I have a female shepherd that has white in her blood lines. Her mom passes 2 whites per liter and I am thinking of breeding mine with a white male. Anyone from Utah? bradkoyle@netzero.com

My son just brought home a white german shepard and said it was one of two in a litter. He said the owner gave him the dog for free but was selling the regular pups for $500. Does that make any senses? Is there something wrong with this tyoe dog?

i would like to know where can i buy a white German Shepard puppy i think theyve got a great temperament and are the best breed of Shepard's u can have when u have a family my old dog was loyal right until the end of her life due to old age i had to have her put to sleep about 2yrs ago and i would be grateful if u could point us in the right direction in puchasing a new puppy

THE REASON YOUR SON GOT THE DOG FOR FREE IS GERMAN SHEPARD BREEDERS THINK THAT WHITE SHEPARDS ARE A GENETIC DEFECT AND MOST OF THE TIME DROWN THE PUPPIES SO THEY WON'T INFECT THE BREED. I SAW THIS OF DATELINE AND THEY DID IT ALL UNDERCOVER. IT'S SAD BECAUSE THEY ARE SWEET DOGS. MY COUSIN HAS ONE.

My mother's 11 year old white german shepard just past and we need another one to get her 2 year old white german shepard company that we saved from a shelter. This new dog would live on over 200 acres with lots of love from my parents. There is probably nothing wrong with the puppy. Most likely the reason the owner gave the white one away is because they're color is actually recognized as a fault and they can not be shown or registered. with any luck this will change soon. But consider yourself lucky. I myself just got a white german shepherd female and she is turning out to be a great dog!

White sheperds are excellent guard dogs and show an affinity to the mother in the home.I have noticed some problems with blood lines over the last 25 years having had 3 of them. We just put our last one down due to cancer but I'd still get another one!

For the benefit of anyone who happens along this post later: There's nothing wrong with them at all--they just can't be shown in the conformation ring with regular shepherds. The color white is disqualified in show rings. However, the recessive white gene is carried by even many show and working German Shepherds, and there's nothing at all wrong with them--it is not linked to deafness or any health or temperament problems at all. :)

I have a 4 month old female white Shepherd (Sasha) i have 3 children and she is very protective of them she plays a little bit rough with my 14 year old son but is so gentle of my six year old and also with my daughter who is 17 and she has cerebral palsy ,she is that intelligent i am sure she knows of her disability.although i must stress she wants to chase the cats and i have 2 of them and one is 17 (poor thing) she would not hurt them but she will not stop chasing them ( any tips ) and she hates other dogs. anyone got any tips please contact me aprilbridge2@aol.com

I have a 6 year old white male German shepherd. There are a lot of misconceptions about the breed, like they are albino. That is not true. Albino animals have pink eyes and my dog definitely does not have pink eyes. They are super smart dogs. The biggest thing you have to watch out for are backyard breeders, which is one of the main leads of hip dysplasia. Hope all this info helps!

We have a white german shephard who is two years old. We had a hard time finding him but did find him locally. We couldn't ask for a better dog. After having him I would not get any other breed. The only problem we have is he sheds and I went through many brushes. I found a brush at Petsmart called the furminator, It's a little expensive but well worth it.
