I'm kinda freaked out by how young you guys are. I'm 19 and just started considering it. Don't do it yourselves. There is tons of info on the web (about the dangers). Why don't you guys (under 18) simply put it out to your parents that if they don't help you get it done professionally, that you will do it yourself and they can't stop you. Your parents are smart, and won't want you doing it yourself. Talk to them about the research you've done. The risks and how they can be avoided. It's a chance for you to show your parents that you are mature. (Please be mature and weigh the risks carefully.) There is TONS of stuff on the web you can pull up to show your parents. Just try to win them over; and do it nicely. (Yelling and being whiny won't convince them to let you do it).

My Dad is letting me get my tongue pierced soon so I DOT have to worry about doing it myself (he knows if he doesn't let me I will do it myself!) but I know how it feels to really want a piercing enough to do it yourself.I pierced my ears 9 times, my left nipple, and my clit myself.(and the parents know about everyone of them!!) Befor I did any of them I asked a professional about the prosses. The tongue isn't hard to pierce! Look underneath your tongue. You have two veins running down either side of your tongue. Don't hit those!!! And use a proper needle. I would suggest looking at other tongue piercings before piercing your own. Also before piercing your tongue wash out your mouth with regular Listerine (none of that fancy stuff, it can cause irritation) and afterwards you must wash your mouth out with a mix of 1/2 Listerine and 1/2 water every half hour for a few days. Then you can cut down to every 2 hours. It takes about 2 weeks for the tongue to completely feel. Good Luck

hey everyone, im 14 and i REALY want my tongue pierced. i already have my bellybutton,nose,10 on my ears(including my industrial) and i want a tongue. neither my mom or dad will let my get it. my mom says im not mature enough to get one and i asked her if i might be able to get it done on my 15th birthday so i dont wanna jepordize that by doing it myself. my birthday is about 5 months away(january 3)but im not a patient person at all. i really wanna go to this one school and my dad is letting me go there but im afraid if i get my tongue pierced myself that he wont let me go there ne more =(. but i cant get it done professionally so i wanna do it myself but i am afraid i will hit a vein. i dont want my mom 2 c it at all so im wondering if i can hide it or not. if ne one can give me any advice or help me please IM me on capricorngrl103. thanx

I'd always wanted my tongue pierced, and my parents finally let me on my 16th birthday. It was a professional place, and they did everything correctly. Unfortunately, it's not for everyone. As soon as it was done, it bled a lot (according to the guy) and swelled up massively. I could barely breath. I was panicking and losing my cool, and people in the back who could hear me were leaving the shop. Sadly the worst was yet to come. I'm a good looking girl, always been popular with boys, etc, but not as much now. I can barely speak, or move my tongue, and it's been seven weeks. Two weeks ago I had the piercing removed and it's healed up, but the damage, according to my doctor is permanent. That is, for as long as I live. I can barely speak, and sound retarded. I have a problem kissing, and almost feel like I'm gonna choke if someone kisses me. I drool, like all the time, my mouth just fills up with saliva, so I need to always carry a tissue with me, held in my hand, to constantly wipe my mouth. My parents regret their decision so much, but try not to blame me for it. My dad spent nearly $20,000 to send me to a specialist in Geneva, but he says there's little they can do in order to make me speak right again. All because of a tongue piercing, which I don't even still have. My parents didn't bother suing the shop, they chatted with them and they understand it wasn't their fault. We're all wired differently. I had everything done right, but I had a reaction to it that most people don't. I'll never be able to sound normal again, ever. Remember that. Is it really worth it? Someone earlier said it will eventually go out of fashion. It will. Besides more and more complications are arising. One girl ended up with a brain absess. She nearly died. How I wish I'd not got my tongue pierced. People used to say I talked nice. Now they look at me like I'm retarded.

Hello everyone this is nonsense. I pierced my tongue 3 times and so far i have done it better then a profesional. Im a 13 yr old boy, i have my eyebrow, ear, and now tongue done, today ill be doing it for my fourth time. Heres the procedure of piercing it your self, 1) Wash your hands and brush your teeth 2) Wash your mouth out with mouth wash and water 3) Get a 14 gadge needle or a sweing machine needle (starts skinny then gets bigger) 4) Get a 2 inch bar bell because your tongue will swell up 5) OPTIONAL use ambesol or ice to numb your tongue 6) Use clamps or stick out your tongue as far as you can 7) Go in about 1 inch from the tip of your tongue NEVER PIERCE THE TIP IT CAN CAUSE EXTREME INFECTION AND PERMANENT TASTE/SPEECH PROBLEMS Put the needle up 8) Do whatever techinque helps you the best i coun'tto 3 then think about something i really like and push as hard as you can and as fast as you can. Don't ever do it slow because the muscles in your tongue will tense and it will be even harder to go threw 9)Once the needle is threw put the barbell at the bottom part of the needle and push up so the needle goes out and the barbell goes in. 10) Brush your teeth and wash your mouth out immeditaly. It may bleed but if theres large amounts of blood or if the bleeding persists immeditaly put ice and paper towels in mouth to stop bleeding 11) It may be sore for the next few days but its completly normal, i talked like donald duck for about 5 days after i had it done 12) if your trying to keep it from your parnets try sleeping at a friends or go to your local mall or movies a lot thats what i did 13)After about 2 weeks get a new barbell and put it in 14) Thats how you do it 15) If you have any questions PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not answer yourself please e-mail me at Clover_Kid13@yahoo.com and ill get back to youw ithin the hour...thx and have fun...by the way im startign a site on how to pierce thigns...ill let you all kno when its up

hey all! i was just reading some things bout self-piercing my belly button, and somehow stumble upon self-piercing of the tongue as well. first off, i want to tell ANYONE that is even considering piercing their tongue themselves is plain STUPID. secondly, all of you guys complaining out there are like 13 or 14! im 16 and have wanted my tongue pierced ever since my older sister's friend got his done (she's 9 years older than me, and i was like 8 at the time). its something that has always attracted me, and i plan on getting it pierced. but i will get it done professionally. granted, my moms not too thrilled with it. shes even said before that she wont let me. but think of the other alternatives, rather than doing it yourself. talk to a friend's parents and see if they'll keep your secret cool, get a fake id, if you're a chick, work your way with the male piercers (most wont id when its chicks that look older than they are and theyre flirting). another idea, theres lots of people in your community im sure who are interested in piercings, just like you. and there are such things as apprenticeship (however the f*ck you spell it!). there are other ways around it. just DONT pierce it yourself, please. i know that theres all those stories out there of people who did it themselves and it was OK, but there are too many chances. do you really want to loose your taste? you could never get that satisfying "mmmmm" feeling when you eat chocolate pudding, or ice cream. it would just be another textured feeling in your mouth. or what about paralyzing yourself? do you really want your high school pictures to be all messed up, because only half of your mouth is smiling, and same with your eyes (they say true beauty comes from the expression in your eyes....but what if you only have control over the expression in one of your eyes). its possible to paralyze 1/2 your freakin face piercing your own tongue if you hit veins or anything like that. and in the worst case scenario, you can die. its unlikely, and there havent been many cases of it, but there are those few. and what if you were one? if you want to pierce anything else, go ahead. but be safe with it. i did my ears, my nose, and my lip. but i did it with sterilized needles and sterilized jewelry. i would sound like a hypocryte if i told you not to do your own piercings, but thats not what im saying. im just saying DONT PIERCE YOUR TONGUE YOURSELF!!. save up your money, find someone who will take you, and get it done professionally. body piercings is an art, but only if done correctly, theres no need to take the chance with your tongue.

I finally talked my parents into letting me get my tongue done. I just turned 15 and i have been begging since I was 11. My friend Stacie had pierced her own {which I highly discourage you to do... she pierced another one of my friends and hit a vein} and it just made my desire to get it done even bigger. I finally talked my mom into letting me get it done and she took me to a local tattoo shop. They were all really nice and very clean. I went in the back and swished with Listerine. Next, the guy clamped my tongue which was actually a lot more painful than the piercing itself. Before I knew it the barbell was through and he was screwing the ball on. It didn't hurt as bad as I had anticipated...but everyone is different {I tend to like piercings A LOT so I've had worse pain.} My tongue was swollen for like a week. Try to refrain from talking and eat a lot of crushed ice and Popsicles. Make sure you constantly are using Listerine diluted 50% with water and salt water is also good. But for everyone who is thinking of doing it yourself... please don't idiotic! I've seen what happens if your screw up.... I have had my tongue pierced three times and i am now 16. The first time was in Germany when i was 15 where they don't check for ages and i did it professionally and they charged me about 75 dollars. my parents found out and made me take it out after a month when they noticed. then i turned 16 and moved back to DC and wanted it again but you have to be 18 so I did it myself. It came out crooked and i redid it myself with a thick safety pin(i know not smart) but it worked and i have it again and i have a feeling my parents wont be happy if they find out but they don't pay attention much to my mouth and it has been 4 months and i love it. yea i have like everything pierced.my first hole [2 years old] 2nd and 3rd at the same time when i was 5. 4th hole when i was 9 my eye brow when i was 10 my nose i did my self like 3 weeks after i got my eye brow pierced and then i got my belly button when i was 12 and then i got my labret 3 days after that then i got my and then i got my tongue pierced when i was 13 and then like 3 weeks after during one of my classes me and my friend were bored so we pierced my tongue web and now i have 4 balls to play with in my mouth lol its fun..14 i got both my nipples pierced and then 4 weeks after i got both my nipples pierced i got my clit pierced and that hurt. but wat eles should i get pierced lol i dont think i have enough. well tell me if u have any thing so ask bout any thing that u want pierced i have almost all of them so dont be shy and ask me ok bubi guys ps. and im still 14 tuning 15 in november just in case your wondering

I had my tongue pierced before but I let it close because my stage manager(I was in my school play) wanted me to because it didnt fit my character. I didnt do it myself, but I didnt have it professionally done either. My friend who used to work at Spencer's, and did ear and belly button piercings, did mine with a regular sterilized sewing needle. Just remember to be careful and clean it well and you should be fine.

DO NOT, WHAT EVER YOU DO, DON'T PIERCE YOUR TONGUE YOUR SELF. I KNOW YOU PROBABLY WONT LISTEN TO ME BUT DON'T CAUSE, LIKE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE SAID YOU MAY HIT A VEIN. JUST THINK OF YOUR FAV TASTING FOOD, YOU'LL LOSE YOUR SENSE OF TASTE AND WONT BE ABLE TO ENJOY IT ANY MORE. YOU CAN ALSO HIT A NERVE AND PARALISE YOU TONGUE, WHICH MEANS NO MORE TALKING. YES YOUR PIERCING WILL LOOK COOL BUT YOU WONT ABLE TO TALK. I WENT WITH MY FRIEND TO GET HERS DONE, ITS NOTHING TO BE SCARED OF, ALL THEY DO IS NUMB THE HELL OUT OF YOUR TONGUE, PUT TWO DOTS WHERE THE PIERCING WILL GO, PUT A CLAMP ON IT, THEN PUT THE NEEDLE THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE TONGUE. THE NEEDLE IS THE TAKEN OUT LEAVING A PLASTIC STRAW IN THE TONGUE, THE BAR THEN GOES ON TOP OF THE STEW AND IS PULLED THROUGH, THE BALL IS THEN PUT ON, AND THAT'S IT.IT ONLY COST �30 ALL SHE HAS TO DO IS LOOK AFTER IT NOW AND GO BACK IN A WEEK AND HAVE IT CHANGED, AND THATS WHEN I'M GETTING THE BOTTOM OF MY NAVEL PIERCED!!!

my friend has had it done twice. the first time her dad said she had to take it out and wait until she was 16. she never had any problems but she got it done professionally. if you dont you could get seriously hurt. you could DIE. and you guys that have your stories of wanting it done soooo badly: i had to wait because i was on a blood thinning med.(comadin) i didnt want to wait either and now im glad i did. my doc informed me that if i got it done while i was on the comadin, i could have died and i definetly would have been in the hospital. if you really want it done then tell your parents. keep asking and tell them that your considering doing it yourself. they might listen, if they love you then they wont want you to do it yourself.

first things first, if your gonna pierce your tongue yourself, then make sure u know how to and i'drecommend seeing someone do it first or see pictures or something cuz sometimes people can't understand what words mean. even better, if you have a friend who has pierced a tongue before, get them to do it, you'll feel alot better knowing they know what they r doing. second, you can get barbells at wal-mart, i think hot topic, spencers, celebration(if you know what that store is), and lots of places, just look at the jewelry. third, take care of it, and rinse it alot. and lastly, i got mine done yesterday, it barely hurt, but one word of advice.. have lots of paper towels so you can take care of the drooling..

Omg whoever wants to pierce their own tongue..i'm telling you right now, DONT. A friend did mine for me 2 days ago and it didnt go proper at all, it hurt so much, i'm 14 and i cried and freaked out because my friend thought the needle was in the whole way but it wasnt and we didnt kno how to get the rest through because it just wouldnt go. it looks fine now, but honestly, if your under age and you want it done, go find someone on the street and ask them to sign for you if your parents wont let you, and hiding it from them isnt a problem. Its nto hard at all, unless your screaming in their face they wont see it. and if your still going to pierce it on your own, buy andesol, its numbing gel for your mouth , you can buy it at shoppers drug mart or anywhere like that.and put ice cube chips in your mouth after its pierced, and dont eat any sweets.

i am 15 years old and my mom gave me the choice of either getting a tattoo or getting my tongue pierced so i chose a tongue piercing now i have been researching for the past 3 weeks on tongue piercing to gain knowledge of the effects, the cautions and the harm it could cause if its not done right now i know that i haven't got it done yet but you people who want to do it yourself are really really STUPID!!! i honestly hope that your tongue falls out. why would you want to take a chance on PERMANENTLY HARMING yourself that is so stupid thats why the people who do the piercing are called PROFESSIONALS they know what they are doing and how to do it right so don't be stupid if you have to wait then wait don't do anything stupid its not worth it plus just becauz ur friends did it their self and everything turned out fine guess what ur NOT THEM!!! just because their okay doesn't mean that you will be you body's are totally DIFFERENT so why take the risk. if your not going to listen to me then at least listen to a PROFESSIONAL its for your on good

Oh my goodness, first of all NEVER EVER EVER EVER USE A PIERCING GUN TO PIERCE ANYTHING BESIDES THE SOFT PART OF YOUR EARS, FOR SEVERAL REASONS: 1. The severe action of the piercing gun shatters cartilage instantly, and basically fractures the area, and takes years to heal. 2. Have you ever seen a respectable and professional piercing artist pierce a labret , nose, or navel with a piercing gun? NO. The first reason for this being the type of jewelry inserted into the hole is NOT the same as a plain old earring, which is what goes into the piercing gun. A navel hole is curved. A labret has a flat backing. Etc. 3. The type of jewelry is not correct, and can result in severe infections. -------------------------------------------- Anyways, I am 24 and have 14 ear piercings, nose pierced, tongue pierced, navel pierced, both nipples pierced, labret, lip, and I have a tiny ring pierced into the webbing of each of my big toes and my second toes. I KNOW MY PIERCINGS. Everyone out there needs to listen to me when I say GO PROFESSIONAL OR NOT AT ALL. I do not care if you have to go somewhere and make an adult friend or convince an aunt or uncle to pose as your parent so you can get the damn thing. Get a clear barbell if you freaking have to, but don't be an idiot and risk loss of taste etc.

Hey guys!! Make sure that you do watch what your doing if you are doing it yourself. I do piercings for a living and here are some tips... first make sure you have sterile needle and jewelry... I would say that it would be better to get it done by someone who knows what they are doing... but if not make sure you put it atleast 1/2 an inch and up to an 1 inch back on your tongue... also try to do it at a slight slant towards the back of your mouth. This helps the barbll to find a comfortable area in your mouth to rest and it makes it less obvious and less uncomfortable when you are talking... watch out for veins! and keep it clean... if you have any other questions I would be glad to answer them before you do it!! Hey KIDS I'm 25 and have had my tongue PIERCED 5 times! I like the pain what can I say! Anyway, pain isn't the right word. It comes and goes so fast you don't really feel it. But if you wanna feel the pain get it done tons of times cause the scar tissue hurts when you get it done again. But here is my advice! Unless you are like a HARDCORE Punk/Rocker/Metal Head, meaning you have TONS of piercings, and tattoo's and this is WHO YOU ARE! Than seriously, don't get it done. Think of a tongue piercings like a tattoo! sure it heals but the TOP never does. I have this deformed taste bud! Anyway, if you are going to get it done. Save up money and go somewhere. If you save up enough you might be able to pay off the piercer if your underage! But don't do it your self! It'snot worth the risk or INFECTION (there is a major vein in your tongue and you could LOSE THE WHOLE THING), Paralyzing your tongue ( CAN'T TALK OR TASTE) or getting it so screwed up you won't want to talk cause it looks freakish! Save up money, or find a friend that is a professional!

Hey guys. DON'T DO IT YOURSELF. my friend did it herself and hit a vein in the bottom of her tongue and now she can't taste anymore. not to mention that she HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE THE TWO BIG VEINS UNDER YOUR TONGUE ARE MAJOR ARTERIES (that means that they carry a lot of blood). If you do enough ass kissing, and seriously do a lot of research, you might be able to get it done, and if not? WAIT. if you still want it after a long time, GET IT DONE. if your parents really won't let you get it, just wait until you're 18, or go online and do some research! like, present a project! it's summer now, no one has to worry about homework and everyone has a lot of free time, so just get some info on it and present it to your parents, (like the history of piercings, what they signify, why you want it, how safe it is..) yeah.

I have my tongue done, and i am also a pro. percier. DO NOT do it yourself. If is VERY dangorous. yes i wanted to do myself when i was younger also, but then my friend died because she did it herself. Yes you will drull ALOT, and you will also bleed. For the first few days it will hurt .. and be sowllen. Mine was about the size of my thumb. use mouth wash with alcahol, and somekinda acid . It will clean it VERY well and kill all the germs. You can also you HOT salf water ( with TONES of salf) to decrease the swelling . BUT PLEASE DONT BE STUPID AND DO IT YOURSELF !!!!!!!! (and by the way yes your mothers/parents/w.e will no .. my sister tryed that stunt.. and it dident work becuase her tounge was sowllen .. and couldent talk corectly .. DUHHH )
