Females tend to be easier to train then males but males tend to stick to their training better than females. If you're a female them you'll probably like female dogs the most and the same with males and male dogs.

Hi Jenny,

I have a male and female Shih Tsu and what Tanisha said is very true.  Male's are more difficult to train because they are trying to mark their territory.  They will also sneak off and try to hide to do their business, where as the female will do it right in front of you.  I used puppy pads and lots of "No's & Good Boy/Girl" to get the potty training down.  Also, once they're older you can start using treats.  If you try using the treats at an early age (before 4 months) it could make them sick as their stomachs can not handle that yet.  Both of my shih tsu'slove boiled chicken and they can eat that at an early age, so you may want to try that for a treat.  Hope this helps.  Good Luck and hang in there!   ~Taylor
