i want to make a model rocket motor can anyone guide me with the solid fuel composition and how to make a solid fuel model rocket motor of 3 inch diameter and 10 inch lengh. I want to know the fuel compositions.

well get some potassium nitrate and sulfer and then some magniseum mix it with a spoon and place it in a tube and then add a fuse or electronic ignighter
then lighter up

just use mixer of gunpower from the bullet that you have to buy at wal-mart or anywhere. to make a solid power use something to suck air and add soiudem and let it harden for four day .

Get pottasiam nitrate and sulpher then put these in a bottle of any type then keep on shaking it until a liquidy mesh is formed  put that in a cylinder light it and then bottoms up.

don't ever use potassium nitrate with magnesium, you will make a bomb not a rocket

I have a question. I want to build my own rocket motor using solid fuel but i am not sure what chemicals i need to add and how i am to mix them and all. And would it be possible to us gaseous Nitrous Oxide with the solid fuel to add thrust to the rocket?

Hey I am also trying to make one, and I tried making this wacky mixture of vaseline, gunpowder and aluminum flakes. It is a good fuel, but messy

Well you can use gunpowder but you have to make it into a paste witch is made up of very fine black powder mixed with dextrin this paste is then put into a casing that has to have a nozzle on the end and a cap.if you use gunpowder from a gun store it will burn to slow if you make your own be sure that it hardens like a brick this web site here will help you make the black powder and you can buy the chem. they don't take a id.i have ordered from them very good resource for rocket making.i hope this helps you http://www.unitednuclear.com/chem.htm

oh i almost forgot tubes are sold at that website but http://www.cannonfuse.com/ is cheap on the fuse and tubes.

take a small peice of pbc and pour gunpowder in it with a cap on both ends. and thendrill a hole stick a fuse in and lightit.

67% potassium or sodium nitrate(go to your garden store and buy some stump remover. Some drugstores carry saltpetre too.)

13% sulfur (buy lots of matches)

19% carbon (white sugar)

1% magnesium or iron (optional)

all i have to say is go to googel.com and search for model rockets, how to build a model rocket, model rockets launching sites, and look up any kinda of model rockets for the launching sites on google.com only because it gives u the info that anyone could need..im tryin to find out how to build a 18 by 18 inch model rocket and i looked up as many sites as i can about model rockets and launching sites and i found lots and lots of info..trust me it works!!! and i know what i'mdoing!!

Rocket candy. Melt some salt peter(potassium nitrate) and sugar together place it in a tube and then add a fuse or electronic ignighter.

gun power is bad is it's good to worth with. It creates air pockets. You want something that burns not explodes. Try 100% alcohol(the kind you drink) and biol it to a solid.

i would suggest very carefully taking the contents from firecrackers into the tube tht is going to hold the propellent and carefully compact it(i say"carefully" because aggressivness could cause explosion.
i hope it fly high :)

gun powder doesnt work smokless needs compresion to work and blackpowder burns too fast
