Her eating preferences are set by you - if you continue to try to please her by changing each time she refuses - she will continue to refuse. A good quality food - i.e. Solid Gold, Canidae, Science Diet - are all excellent. Make sure you get the appropriate food for her age group. If it makes you feel better - add a little canned food to the dry and slowly decrease the canned over time if you prefer. How many times a day you food her depends on her age - but she would like to have breakfast and dinner.

You have to make them skip meals until they will eat. If my dogs won't eat their dry dog food it means they are not hungry so I skip their meals until they eat it. Sometimes it takes 4 meals but they eventually eat. If your dog learns that it will get a better treat (canned food, table scraps, etc) if it will not eat the dry food then it will not eat it. Would you?!!? You need to teach it that it has to eat its normal food if it is to get treats. Your dog will not starve. If it is healthy and hungry it will eat. If it is healthy and will not eat then it is not hungry so wait until the next meal(or the next) until it will eat. Don't let your dog win the leader of the pack award. You are the leader and you have to remember that you make the rules and your dog cannot manipulate you into doing what it wants. Good luck!!

My pup did that when he first came home. Someone told me to use NutriCal. Put alittle in a spoon and if the pup agrees with the tast put some over the pups food. If you continue to change the pups food he/she might develope a sensitive tummy and soft stool. Good Luck!

My cockapoo did the same thing, or she would
vomit from many. You need to try a hollistic brand. I order from the Foster&
Smith catalog. The better the food, the less problems later on. Alot of the commercial foods are loaded with stuff they
shouldn't have. If you feed her scraps, she
probably will wait for that. My dog will go
2-3 days without eating sometims. they won't starve!

I just got a puppy home too, about 5 or 6 weeks old, a bit too young I know. It is his 4th day here, and he does not seem to have an appetite for his dry food, or his canned food. We took him to the vet and he said he had a tummy bug from stress. He seems to be getting thinner and he will only eat canned tuna in white boiled rice, choosing the tuna bits. It is worrying me alot as he will only drink abit and whatever variety of dog food we give him he ignores. He looks like he is getting thinner and his stools are like diarrhea, and not a brown colour. We leave the food for him 5 or 10 mins maximum and then take it away and offer him when the next meal time comes around but he refuses. The vet even gave us samples but he refuses. Is there anything I can do? I live in Malta and they dont supply things like Nutri Cal and Solid Gold.

If your dog is a toy breed like maltese , yorkie, some flat faced breeds like Shih-Tzus and Japanese Chins.

The do not like round dog food nuggets. They like small flat or small cherrio shaped nuggets. The smaller the better. One great dog food is Royal Canin, they make food especially for toy breed dogs and make specialty food for Shih-tzus, Yorkies,Daschunds and Poodles.
Larger nuggets feel uncomfortable in their mouths and they cannot chew it easily.

If it is a large breed dog again it might be a breed that does not like large pieces of dog food, try a small bite type. Dogs no better that we do and some dogs will turn down junk dogs food which are very unhealthy.

Try Chicken soup for the Dog Lovers Soul,Premium Edge,Wellness,or Merrick Homestyle Holistique Meals. Try adding a teaspoon of Chicken Baby food, or Sweet Potatos & Turkey Baby Food ect. Healthy, noi added salt, no junk and won't add wieght but will entice them to eat.

Do not use canned dog food as a meal it gets them to just want to eat canned. Let them eat their regular meal and if you want to give them can do it in a seperate bowl as a small treat but in between meal. Again avoid the junk dog foods.

No corn, no wheat, no soy, No beef, No dyes means a healthy dog food and less chance of food allergies developing like Hot spots, feet chewing, itchy skin, bad doggy odor and ear infections.

If your dog has any of these synptoms especially if it is a white or blue breed, or these breeds, a Lab, Golden, Jack Russel,Shih-Tzu, Pit Bull, English Bull Dog, Bichon,Rottweiller and Mini Schnauzer watch what you feed them!!!

I have a 3 and a half month old heeler x kelpie. She is usually very playful, but the last couple of days ive had another puppy come and stay with us from the same litter. she doesnt seem to want to eat, and its like she is always flopping onto the ground.
Would there be anything seriously wrong with her, or would she be doing this for attention?

My puppy is not eating any hard food or much soft food. She threw up a couple times and since will not touch her food. I took her to the vet, and she said her stomach might be upset. I have a small Jack Russell Terrier puppy about 12 weeks old, and I have been mixing pedialyte with her water and feeding her baby food, sometimes with a syringe. I have also been giving her nutrical and a little karo syrup to keep her blood sugar up and keep her from going into seizure. I'm beginning to think now that her teeth are sore and she doesn't want to chew anything so hard. Is this a common problem?

Yes. It is true that if you keep changing his food, he will not like it. So I would go with Science Diet or Pedigree, they are both the best. If he does not like it, then try putting some meat, but try avoiding meat because its not healthy at all and just food is okay. Good luck
