The point is to get the opponent down to 0 life and both players start at 20. You play one land card each turn. These are used to pay the costs of other cards. Other cards you play might allow you to draw, get more lands, limit your opponents attacks, deal damage, play creatures, destroy creatures, destroy lands, gain life, win the game altogether, and so many more things. Most decks have a theme, meaning the cards stick to doing a few of the many things from above, and a color or two from the five basic colors of Magic (red, green, white, black, and blue). Standard decks have 60 cards with players drawing 7 at the beginning of the game and another card each turn.
