What is the bright "star" or "Planet" seen in the western sky each evening as soon as it becomes dark?  It appears to be getting larger or is this an optical illusion? Thank you.

sorry repair dude, its venus(the "evening star"). the suns rays illuminate venus but we can only c it during dawn or dusk wen we dnt hav to look at the suns glare(i think thats wat ur reffering to neway, cud b wrong coz im nt there). venus wud appear larger as it approaches the earth(it is on a smaller orbit and appears to come closer sumtimes, mars moves faster than earth but because its in a larger orbit it seems that earth is going faster, this is retrograde motion and if we were on venus earth wud do the same, umm, digressed a bit).
