if you gauge your ears up to a zero gauge. how long will it take for them to shrink back to an 18 if at all possible?

I read about some girl who went up to a 7/16. She a realized she looked funny with such a big gauge so she took the jewelery out. 4 months later she only went down to a 0 gauge. 2 years past and she only went down between a 2 and 4 gauge.

They say once you go down to about a 2 gauge it's difficult for your lobes to shrink down to a smaller size.

The trick to closing large gauge piercings is to stretch them slightly and then put in smaller jewelry. Example: you have 8ga, stretch almost to a 6ga and put in 10ga rings/plugs/etc. After 2-3 months repeat process. Stretch almost to 8ga and put in 10ga. The idea is to cause enough irritation to trick the body into thinking its a new piercing. Aftercare is just like a new piercing and watch for keloids.

it is easy to let them close you just keep your earing out and it will close my ear now is almost at a 1/2 inch and when it was at zero i took it out for a day and in shrunk to a 2 or 4 gauge and i had to push a zero back through but if you just keep your earing out it will close give it time!

*shrug* A friend of mine had his ears either at 0g or 00g [cannot remember which] and they shrank almost completely within weeks.
Zoe, right now you are at a 20g or 18g. DO NOT even attempt to put a 12g in. If you do, you are taking a VERY big risk of tearing or causing a blow out in your lobes. Trust me, it ISN'T fun. Start at a 16g at the BIGGEST. From there wait at least 1-2 months between each stretch. Piercing studios do not charge much to stretch a piercing [at least not the ones here; they're only about between $5 and $10]. The cost of jewelry on the other hand, though, is a different matter. If you don't want to get it done professionally, get some first aid tape and add one revolution of tape on your earrings. Every couple of days add another revolution until you get to the next size. I realize that you may be impatient to stretch your ears, but trust me, it is better to wait and have it done properly than to jump into it and possibly do permanent damage to your ears.

I've have my ear at a 000 (7/16)for about a year and I took it out recently.  It closed up almost completely.

I'm actually thinking about going up to a 9/16 but not sure when I'll reach my own point of no return.  Anyone gone up to a 1/2 inch or larger and gone back to a closed hole.

i had regular piercing,  like an 18 gauge.  i bought sum 14 guage rings and got them thru.  DO NOT shove them thru fast.   i did mine somewhat slowly and even still they teared a bit.  i would recommend starting at a gauge a bit small,  like 14,  not 12.   then if it tears,  wait until it is healed b4 u put in the next gauge.    GOOD LUCK

ok... i was at a 16 gauge, i put a 8g in it within a week and had absolutely no problems. i am now at a 3/8". don't use any kind of rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, none of that stuff... it causes prolonged healing time which can lead to infection and scarring. wash your hands and ear with ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP, then lube up the ring or w/e you have with the soap, the SLOWLY slip it in. don't mess with it without cleaning your hands first, when using the phone, use the other ear, try not to let anything touch it (this includes cosmetic stuff). just be careful about it.

happy gauging :D

i had 18s so I bought 8 guage horns and pushed them in gradually every other day. This by far is the best method there is no pain involved. every once and a while give it a little push and by the end of the week your ear will go from a 18 to an 8....well mine did

An easy and cheap way to gauge your ears is just use one of those jelly bracelets that everyone has. Start by cutting a piece off of it and cut it so it has a spiked point on it then put it through your ears. It will take a little bit but it goes through (use a smaller size of the bracelet). then, whenever you can twist it easily, take it out then put a layer of black electrical tape on it. just repeat until you have the size you want. good luck

NO, they are reffering to a 'TAPPER' its like a spike with one end the guage side and the other side tappers into a point so that you can slide it through your ear easier.

i'mat an 8 gauge. i dont know why people rush gauging there ears.DONT! i got my ears pierced at a 16, waited 6 weeks. put a 14 in, waited 3 weeks. then kept going down to an 8. give your ears a chance to heal a little before putting a bigger gauge in. ALso, use some sort of spike that gradually gets thicker rahter that just shoving a plug through. its 50 times easier

Going from "pericing at the mall" to a 12g... YEAH! definate blow out and pain there. a percing at the mall is usually a 22, maybe a 20, and jumping to 12 would be a huge risk. and i dont think you want to have to deal with the infection and pain of a blow out.

i had 00 in both of my ears. over night they closed up to an 8. it just depends on your body. you can look at it by how fast you heal when you have a scrap on yoru knee compared to other people. also when you have a mall piercing start off with a 14. put some vaseline or some antibacterial soap on the ring and slide it through. you can keep going till around 8 or 6 and then you need tapers because the hoops start to be internally threaded.

i have a 4guage taper and a 2 and a double zero.i took both my ears from 10's to double zeros in just 5 days!!!!!now they are at 1/2 an inch and its been about 2 weeks i've had them pierced.....so good luck to u and your line

Ok I have something to say first off the right way to gauge your ears properly is to put heavy earring's in and play with them til they go to the next size on their own and so on that way the scar tissue in side the ear doesnt get to thick to heal.So just using weight will guage them or you can usa a taper or spike but can do more damage. Now on this subject of no return I know someone who had 2 1/2 inch gauges and left them out for 3 years and they went all the way back to an 8 you just have to do it right I am currently at 1/2 inch gauges in both ears and i have been working on them for about a year so I would just say do what you want you can take more time with it or do it fast and maybe cause problems but just go for it.PeAcE

don't go too fast like i did or you'll regret it. TRUST ME! i went WAY too fast. i put in safety pins then went to a 14 to 10 to 6 to 4 to 2 to 0 to 00 to 1/2" and finally to 5/8" so far. i only waited a few days in between. they prob. won't close up. if u want them to close up, don't go past 1/2" (or a 2 ga. to be on the safe side) if u take your time it'll be easier to go back due to less scar tissue. take it slow, it'll make your destiny that much sweet when u get there. i ignored it and now i'mhere for the rest of my life and i'monly 17. i know how you'll feel, i felt the same way. u think, "it'll never happen to me. not me. maybe you or that guy. but not me. i'llbe able to go back and close them up." but you won't!!

I had my ears pierced at a mall.  Size 20.  After that I bought some gauging spikes from a friend.  He said they would gauge my ears out to a 0.  He said it took him 3 days.  His ears look great.  He is now at 1/2.  So I gauged my ears from a 20 to a 0 in day.  I messed with them all day till they slid all the way in.  Im at zero in both ears.  That was about three months ago.  My ears look fine.  Feel fine.  Now Im about to go to 00gauges.

i dont know if you people post in here still or what not, but from what ive read there is a lot of ignorance. everybody has their own point of no  return. ive had a frend at quite the large gauge and her ears did what one person said, if you forceyour ears to a larger siZe then take out the jewlrry, your ears will shrink a lot faster.
my ears are currently at 1" and ui dont plan on going smaller. i think if you are going to go through the effort and pain of stretching them, only to know that you are going to take them out in a short while, whats the point, i feel that body modifications are a self expression and a stateof mind. you shouldnt let society make you stop in fear of not succeeding in the future.

To Zoe, I am an apprentice piercer. My ears are now at a mere 00g, but the trick is to rub neosporn or some other greasy anti-biotic onto the earing before you put it in, you should be able to easily put in a 10. Gauging hurts because of friction, not so much the stretching, that is one reason it is so easy to gauge a toungue, saliva acts as a lubricant, plus that, the neosporan should also help your piercing heal right, a good piecring shouldn't have much scar tissue, there are a lot of kids out there that have very bad looking gauges, mostly scar tissue, that makes it hard to gauge later, if your planning on going big, like my buddy with a 2 in. then you don't want to develop much scar tissue, I also recommend witch hazel as an anti-biotic, it is a great disinfectant and it won't turn it into a scar.

Hey there! The key is moving slowly. I just got upsized from size 6 plugs to size 4 today (woohoo... congratulations, me!) If you let your ears COMPLETELY heal around the next-smallest size to the 0, (that's about a month) and keep going down one size each month, you should heal with minimal scarring.
