Reggae music as it is known now, started in poorer jamiacan community's. It was the music brought out by the rasta movement. I think it was in 65 that the music emerged, but i might be wrong, either way it was in the 60's. Famous reggae singers are easy though, just check out peter tosh, the greates of em all. Jimmy cliff, bob marley of course, Mr. Gentleman(although he's a german he is reggae music) capleton, and the biggest of the current reggae artists is natty king. Reggae is a mix of ska and traditional african religous music. Ska is a dance hall type music. that givesw reggae the upbeat and unpredictable base lines. have fun wit this one mon. Reggae has a lot to it. You could do this report 300 pages thick and still not cover it all. There are many types of reggae, calypso, roots, dance hall(this is the one like the sean paul and capleton). meanwhile roots is more like bob marley, peter tosh, and jimmy cliff. And calypso, i gave mr. gentleman as my example for that one, But there are many, many more. Calypso is the one most widely thought of as reggae music. You know that carribean beat that pops in your head when you think of reggae. Just look up peter tosh, bob marley, and jimmy cliff, They are some of the begginings of reggae as it is now, so it should help you find out more.

I'm doing the exact same thing, I found out the answer is
There are many kinds of drums, though most have goatskin heads. Several African Jamaican religious groups use a long, one-headed cylindrical drum and a square frame drum, with variations of each. Many village bands use maracas, mbiras (and a bass mbira called a "rhumba box"), graters (cheese graters scraped with a nail), triangles, and glass bottles (struck with a stone or any hard object). Some groups also use a bamboo stick beaten with two other sticks and a machete struck with a metal beater. The "boompipe" is a Jamaican stamping tube. The player may buzz the lips while blowing into the tube to produce notes or simply stamp one end of the tube on the ground to produce a note. An animal horn was played like a trumpet hundreds of years ago to send signals, but is no longer used much.

Hope this helped

I can tell you that Reggae music is mostly about people who believe in no war. It was created in the early 60's by mostly African Americans who lived in Jamaica. Indians and Europeans also lived there. But the majority at the time was the African population. Hope this helps. Ginger.

Hey lol im doing that too reggae music started in the ghettos of jamaica (carribean) It was most opoular in the 1950s-60s some instruments used are keyboards, drums, guitars, bass guitars are popular and NOT steel pans lol my teacher cant stress this enough.Reggae music is influenced by rastafarian movement and the lyrics are often about raising an issue about social and political reasons/problems. O yeh reggae music is a mix of rock steady and ska and one of its main features is off beats on the 2 and 4. Most reggae artists were rastafarians (a religion). Ok i hope this helps you out but seeing as i already know this it aint for me lol love shaz x x x

Reggae is an African Caribbean style of music developed on the island of Jamaica, founded by a man called Bob Marley in the late 1940ís. To create Reggae he took Soca Music and slowed it down. Reggae is the most respected cultural music in the world and it would probably be for a very long time. Reggae has a strong beat 2+4 which is know as a black beat. This style of music is always slow and in a chilled out tempo. One of the most important things in Reggae is the Bass. There is always lots of percussion and only two or three chords used. Reggae is always played in 4/4 and there is always repetition in the lyrics. The populist artist are Beenie Man, Elephant Man, T.O.K, Red Rat, Super Cat, Sean Paul (a well known modern artist) and of course Bob Marley. (Research it actually helps)
