I have a $1000 note number 8894. Someone said there were some good fakes but this one looks real. How can I tell? It is dated December 15, 1840. It has 6 photos on it. On the front it has "The Bank Of The United States" also has New York & Philidelphia on it. It has several signatures on it. Can anyone give me more information on this note.
Interested in value of it.

Hi..it's a replica not a real note. Here is the tip offs first is it printed on yellow parchment type paper, real notes were never printed on this type of paper. They use this yellow parchment type paper to make the note look old.Second the signatures on your note if they are printed it is a fake note.A real note from this time period would have have hand signed signatures in ink. Most of these signatures are in brown ink also.
Here is a web site that talks about 8894 scroll down and I thinks you will see a picture of your note. This fakes fool a lot of people. They have no value although you see people get fooled on ebay with these things. Here is site...http://www.coinsite.com/content/cdanswers/cdarchive6.asp

8894 is not a bond or note, it's a thousand shares of the bank.  It's not on paper or parchment, but on onion skin, possibly hundreds of watermarks. Dated Nov. 15 1957 F.H.H.J.'s birthday. email lkennedy4@msn.com
