How can I befriend a bird without scaring it?

I think you should start by leaving small bits of food in feeders around the exterior of your house. After they get used to seeing food around your house they will be expecting it. If they come at a certian time of day be out side reading a book etc. Be there while they are feeding so they see you and know you will be there. after a while they will figure out that you are giving them the food. I dont know what to do after that.
