He's likely dreaming.  Chihuahuas shake for many reasons.  They're cold, they're excited, they're scared, there's nothing else to do.  I used to refer to it as Katherine Hepburn syndrome, but in light of her recent passing, it seems a bit disrespectful.

As long as he's warm I wouldn't worry about it.  Does his bed have a blankie he can crawl under?  Chihuahuas like to burrow into blankets, sheets, a pile of clothes on the floor, etc.  Even when we're sweating, they may like to be covered up.  Just make sure there is something they can burrow under, and Never Never Never sit on anything that has a quilt, blanket, towel on it unless you check for your beloved baby first.  If you can't see him, make sure he isn't going to end up under your backside.

If he stops once you wake him, or does more than quiver with excitement, take him to the vet.  Seizures are Not Normal and need to be treated immediately.

CORRECTION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he DOES NOT STOP when you wake him.  Also don't be concerned if he snorts, sneezes, yips, whimpers etc. as long as it is only when he is asleep.  My little 3 pounder can let out a snore you can hear from across the room!

I have a 5 week old chihuahua. I got her when she was 3 weeks old because her mother died, so I took her. She is just starting to grow her teeth in, and she still eats puppy formula from a bottle. But I do not know when to start feeding her actual puppy food.

Correction--------------
The puppy is health and he shakes because he is an active sleeper that means that he is exercising in his sleep and he is getting exercise to get up and go pretty soon.
Puppies should stay with there mom's until they are at least 8 weeks old. They have a better chance of not getting sick later

Good greif, what are people doing to these poor pups, taking them away from their dam so early! They should only be Weaned AFTER 6 weeks old! Please take her to a vet, they will probably help you find a foster dam, or if they dont, they might give you a special dropper and formula specially for orphaned pups. Good luck to the pup.

The VERY first thing you do with a 6 week old pup is take her to the vet!  If you have already done that, please advise.  Really puppies should be eating on their own if they have been weaned properly well before 6 weeks of age.  Mine still nurse a bit, but they eat solid food without warm water added easily.  Yes, 6 weeks is young.  But there is probably something else very wrong if she still isn't eating.  If she is very week you need to jump start her with some diluted corn syrup in warm water.  Personally, I would go straight to emergency.

I AGREE WITH "chimama" TAKE YOUR PUPPY TO THE VET RIGHT AWAY! IT IS TO YOUNG TO BE AWAY FROM IT'S MOM.
