It doesn't really matter. But my experience has been great with Petco. I got all 3 of my guinea pigs there and they are great. I got my dwarf teddy bear hampster from a special breader and she is mean. So my suggestion is go with Petco or another petstore. Handle them at the store first to see if you like them.

PLEASE do not get a piggy from Petco or Petsmart. There has been a lot of controversy on how they treat their small animals. Check your local Humane League shelter. That's where we went, and there were ALOT of piggies and hamsters for adoption. Thanks!

you should probly get a guinea pig from a shelter because each year many guinea pigs are killed there.. and just because there is not enough room or money or whatever.. and you would be savin guinea pigs. However, we got our guinea pigs at petco and they are adorable!!! Petco has a large variety of guinea pigs and pets.

Eather, you could get one from a breeder or what ever you choose, but be careful with the one you pick you can go on the web and find out how to tell if it is sick or not. Thats what I would recommend. Or after you get your cavy(s) go straight to your vet to have a check up and also to get some advice for those of you that have not had a cavy before.I love guinea pigs and what ever it takes to help them is worth it in my opinion. It is up to you I would rather you get one from a breeder, because it may be in better condition, but you may want to help a cavy so you may want to get one from a pet store. Cavies are great so do what you can to help them. EVERY BODY SHOULD HAVE A CAVY!

i think that if you got a guinea pig, that its just fine do get it where ever you want.  if youve always gone to petco to get supplies and other small animals, than thats where i'dgo.  i went there 2 days ago and got one and it all ready likes me, and i can hold it when ever, breeders may be more of a hassel to get to, so petco is fine.  Thanks!

I really depends on the store that is around you and the age you want.  Some Petcos are wonderful and have a very well educated staff, but some Petcos are extremely dirty and all the animals are sick. A rule of thumb is DO NOT get a cavy there if one in the cage is sick! If possible though do go to a shelter! OVER 4 MILLION CAVIES ARE PUT TO SLEEP EACH YEAR!  SO save a life if it is possible.

Hey fagget julia, how could you say that if people would adopt from shelters then maybe they would not have to kill as many. I can not believe you could say that!!!!!!!! And for you AO I would SO SO SO SO get one from a shelter because they all HAVE to be healthy of they cant sell them. Also you would be saving a poor, helpless, scared, homeless guinea pig!!! And they handle them every day to so eeeeeer.

I got my guinea pig at a pet store and she is GREAT! if you are considering getting a different animal, you should not because guinea pigs are cute cuddly loving creatures, hamsters are the wrong way to go

You can get a piggie from eather one , it really doesn't matter. I got my gp from petco and she is over a year old!! I am fixen to get another one from there! But my advice : have the petcare keeper or whatever look over the gp you want just to make sure every thing is ok with the one you are interested in so you dont get one that could have an infection ( not that they would , just to be on the safe side!!!

Petco'guinea pigs are more open, friendly, and excited. Though Pets-mart'guinea pigs are very not friendlily, boring, and are usually in their houses sleeping. I would have to say Petco!

I wouldn't get a guinea pig from petco because it is a chain store and they don't treat animals kindly there. I would suggest getting one from an experienced Pet Shop where animals appear to be healthy.

I just got a piggie from petco for 30$. There are cages that come with everything you need in petco or petsmart. Petco has it for 62$ and petsmart has it for 60$. I got the cage and suplies that come with it from petsmart and my piggie from petco. Today i am getting it a companion because it is lonely.

Just because it your piggie died in one day doesn't mean that is ALWAYS the case. I have a friend who got one that lived a full happy life. It depends on the store, or even the branch/location. Some pet stores are better than others. The guinea pigs/cavies at my local pet smart seem to be quite healthy.

never get a pet from a pet store. they are mistreated, and you may end up buying a ill and/or pregnant pet.
