The crude oil that is refined and probably sold in Southern California could come from almost anywhere. The cost of shipping plays a huge role in where crude is obtained. Since the price of the crude oil itself is basically set by the world market, the cost of transportation becomes the main variable.  Some oil wells producing crude  are located IN California so it would be quite logical that that crude is being refined and sold in California. Texas, Mexico, and Alaska are probably good bets. China is a possibility but that is still a great distance away. The largest tankers are unable to go through the Panama Canal, so it is unlikely that much comes from the Middle East or Venezuela.
