Is it true that the Japanese in Canada were put into camps, despite the fact that at that time, they had little or no connection to Japan anymore?

yes, it is true.
Many other culture's were also put into camps during the second world war. Japanese, Italians and many others, they were taken out of their homes and place of buisness by the rcmp. They were often sent to the work camps. Some grew sick and died.......others stayed for years until the war was over.

Japanese in Canada, as well as the US were locked away in internment camps, despite intelligence saying that they were not threats. Correct.

Being japanese-canadian (by my great-grandparents) I was shocked when I first learned about this. After my mother told me that  my grandparents had in fact been sent to one of the camps, I decided to look further into it! The things that were done to the japanese canadiens were horrible; all of their stuff was confiscated and their homes sold, they were treated as...animals, dangerous animals, and it was almost 10 years of this treatment!

During the war years America had a difficult time seperating Japan's military and their actions from Japan as a culture and a people. In the war in Europe, people in the U.S. somehow seperated a "Nazi" from a German. People had a tough time doing this in the Pacific. People were also upset about Pearl Harbor and wanted revenge. I do not think that these camps were in any way right. I think that they were unjust and a horrible thing to do. I think that understanding the context of the time period can give some insight in to how this could happen.

japanese treatment was wrong, the conditions were crouded. at the time though, the were subject to acts of racism(pearl harbour caused that, but they had nothing to do with it)

Due to the fear of spies in Canada, many people of the races of Italy, Japan etc. were sent to internment camps so that there would be no fear of espionage. This was carried out despite the lack of evidence against the, mainly, Japanese and Italians.
