Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery - Ears

Surgery to correct protruding or over-large ears is called otoplasty . Though it can be performed on adults, it is usually performed on children before they enter school, to prevent the psychological problems that often result from teasing. In the procedure, an incision is made behind the ear, cartilage is cut, and the ear is repositioned closer to the skull. Otoplasty can also build up or replace an ear missing because of a birth defect or accident.
