book, 'Bayreuth: A History of the Wagner Festival', Yale 1994.  

The atmosphere of 19th century Bayreuth was captured in Colette's novel
'Claudine and Annie' (Claudine s'en va), which is included in 'The
Claudine Novels', Penguin USA, 1995.
