The atmosphere of 19th century Bayreuth was captured in Colette's novel 'Claudine and Annie' (Claudine s'en va), which is included in 'The Claudine Novels', Penguin USA, 1995. Other books about the history of the Bayreuth Festival and productions of Wagner's stage works at the Festival, can be found in Section VII of the Wagner Books FAQ.
