29. Should I buy a surname/crest/family history book sold by mail?
Be careful. Some unscrupulous firms offer books that are compiled
mostly from phone lists you can get for free on the Internet. The books
also contain some general and often erroneous information on the origin
of the family name and a crest. More information is available from the
National Genealogy Society's Consumer Protection Committee at
