This is the regularly posted list of archive servers that contain files
related in any way to Acorn computers, i.e. the Atom, BBC, Electron,
Archimedes, R-series, PocketBook, Risc PC and maybe some even rarer types
of machines. Mainly it's about the Archimedes and Risc PC, though. Often,
the term "Archimedes" is used to mean all Acorn 32-bit machines, including
the Risc PC.

This list is maintained by Gerben Vos <>, and co-edited by
Peter Naulls <>. Please mail any updates or remarks to
Gerben Vos. Thanks to all people who have sent helpful information; this list
wouldn't have been what it is without your help.

Other periodic informational postings in the Acorn newsgroups are:
- Comp.Sys.Acorn FAQ List Posting (twice a month)
    by Philip Banks <>,
- comp.sys.acorn.networking Frequently Asked Questions (monthly)
    by Phil Blundell <>
- Listing of Acorn-related Mailing-Lists (monthly)
    by Maurice Hendrix <>, and
- Monthly comp.{binaries,sources}.acorn FAQ
    by Julian Wright <>.

Please use an up-to-date copy of this list! You can get one at the archive
site ( as /pub/usenet/news.answers/acorn/archives .
Especially retrieve an up-to-date copy if you're reading this on CD-ROM or
another non-volatile medium.
There's also a mail server on that machine: if you send an email
message to containing, without the quotes, the text
"send pub/usenet/news.answers/acorn/archives" in the message body, you'll
get the latest version mailed back to you.
This list is also available on the World Wide Web as a text file at , or as nicely
formatted HTML at .

General information about FTP and ftpmail services can be found in
"Anonymous FTP: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) List" by Perry Rovers,
available in all FAQ archives as ftp-list/faq .

This article lists the name of every interesting archive we know of, as well
as the type of files it contains, its numeric address if applicable, and the
email address of the maintainer, if known. Below that follows a list of the
directories to look for with a short description of their contents.
Below the main list are two sections which list the Acorn WWW sites and tell
you how to use Internet ftp by e-mail (using the ftpmail service).

When requesting files from servers, always try to use a server that is as
near as possible to you. And keep in mind that the people running these things
are doing you a favour, so please don't abuse their services.

Changes since some arbitrary time in the past (most recent ones first):
- Added .
- Sounds Riscy moved.
- Demon's IP address has changed.
- FreeNet moved from the University of Southampton to Barnet College.
- Updated the location of the WWW version of this list.

What this [ABT]? stuff means:
        A=Archimedes/Risc PC, B=BBC/Electron/Master, T=Text documents.
Small letters mean: relevant to that machine, but doesn't run on it.

For the meaning of [ABT]?, see above.
