I have. Such headers (inserted into Extra news header lines) override the default headers that would otherwise be sent out.

(I'm not sure what "pre-defined headers" you mean, actually. The From: and Date and so forth? I don't think they'd affect FAQ posting - that is, normally FAQ authors wouldn't want to override the default headers, although of course they can.)

I'm not sure whether this helps the original poster, who wanted an offline newsreader, though.
