Another factor in favor of this approch is that the netscape news reader,
(and no doubt most of the others) will automagicaly use a url in the form
of http://www.faqs.org/faqs/ as a hot link. you could add the URL: in
front with a space if there was doubt.

Since netscape came out three short years ago, a lot of folks now KNOW
that that http: indicates the strat of a web address.
