What problems has it caused?
I maintain my FAQ in WordPerfect 5.1/DOS and then do a "save as text" to
format it for Usenet. The only hand tuning I need to do is remove the EOF
(^Z) character that WP5.1 insists on putting there.

You just want to have your line breaks occur at around 75 columns, and all
should be well...

If you have access to a Word Proceesor, use it. If not, use Write or
something else that will handle the line breaking problem for you when you
output it to text for publishing on Usenet or the Web.
