If she writes anything abrasive or unappropriate on this news group, does
anyone criticize her for being brusque? If no one does, then her public
behaviour might not be the problem that you perceive it to be.
Her behaviour in private is none of our business, and you do her a great
diservice by sharing her troubles with us here in public. She may be having
personal difficulties that have absolutely nothing to do with your news group.
My advice to you is to "ride it out," and if she doesn't wish to share
her personal problems with you, then mind your own business.
FAQ maintainers do just that. Maintain a FAQ and make sure it gets posted.
They do not have a responsibility to participate in every thread that appears
on a group. Some news groups get a lot of traffic, and I think that reading
and responding to every single newbie question is doing too much.
That's why FAQs exist, and refering a newcomer (politely) to the FAQ
(especially
after asking a question that gets asked a buhzillion times) is appropriate.
Perhaps your friend needs a break, but again, that is her business.
