1. What digest formats are supported ?
Currently I've added support the RFC 1153 and "FAQs: A Suggested Minimal
Digest Format" written by Chris Lewis <clewis@ferret.ocunix.on.ca>. It's
pretty picky at the moment when it comes to following the formats. If you
focus on
Subject: 4. What's a Section, and How is it Formatted?
described in the Suggested Minimal Digest Format faq then you'll be in
good shape and things will look as you expect. A good deal of you already
post your faqs in that format.
2. What about the format I'm using ?
I have not had the time to learn about the other formats being used.
I have minimal documentation on Tom Fine's format but I should be
able to deduce what it is from sample faqs. If you feel that your
faq was/is compliant with his format, drop me a note.
If there are other formats in common use, again, please let me know and
I'll see about supporting them in the future.
3. How can I be sure my format complies prior to posting it to the net and
waiting for it to make it to your site ?
I will be putting up a facility that will allow maintainers to submit
a file and have the pages generated returned to them so they can check
them out. Give me a bit to get the other things cleared up before
looking for this, but it's coming.
4. What is the preamble you talk about below ?
The preamble is the section of your posting that immediately follows the
auxiliary headers and is before the first line of 30/70 dashes (if it's
in digest format). It is useful as an overview of what's contained in
the faq as well as a place to indicate timely information concerning the
faq and what it covers.
5. What is the current state of things ?
I have focused mainly on the reformatting (its only been a day...) so
some of the "Part link following" is not going where it should. In other
words, if you are in a sectional display, The "Next/Previous/PartN" links
at the top and bottom of the display should take you to the appropriate
sectional part. Currently they take you to the single page for that
part and you have to select Multi Part (if it's available for that part).
I am looking towards having three different types of files for each
sectional faq and two otherwise.
1. A top level default file which describes the FAQ (in your words,
see below), has your FAQ's real Homepage displayed as well as
links to the Multi-Page, Single-Page and FTP Text copy.
2. The Single-Page version of the FAQ.
3. The Multi-Page version of the FAQ.
I am planning on putting the preamble information on the first page of
the faq so that timely information as well as an overview description
can be made available to the reader.
Here is a general overview of what the initial page will look like.

The archive is currently being built both ways for the FAQs that are
in one of the two supported formats. I need to figure out how do deal
with the missing part issue before I can clean up the "Part link following".
Currently some of the multipart FAQ postings support the digest formats
in only a couple parts while the other parts are not in a valid digest
format.
Thoughts on any of the above ?
