Since Martin has a Canadi[a|en] email address, I am reminded that I
should point out that I am discussing U.S. law only. Although the
copyright laws of most nations have a lot of the same basic provisions
(most are members of the Berne Convention, which provides a more-or-less
common framework for copyright law), at the nitty level we're dicussing
here, it's likely that there will be a great deal of variation among
different nations' requirements.
