The others have discussed topics which perhaps are more relevant to the
other part of your original posting...

However, this is the most telling. If the goal of your group is to
more fully educate your intended audience, then you should set the expectation
right away that there's a lot to read, and that after reading the large
volume of info, the reader will be better off than before.

Okay, which do you want; 'a whole lot of clues' or a limited amount of info.
If the 'clues' that you have are all critical, then for goodness sakes make
it as easy for someone to read as possible. Why would someone go running
off hither and yon to look up dozens different documents, each of which is
a few thousand bytes long, to learn something that _someone else_ thinks
they should know before embarking on the 'adventure' of starting a new
newsgroup?
