I couldn't agree more. That's what I meant by "support".

Exactly. I certainly don't want to be responsible for what "official"
means. The FAQ I help maintain is just the latest incarnation of a long
line of different, often concurrent, works.

Getting permission from the news.answers folks simply means you've passed
their specifics to be posted to their moderated newsgroup. I wouldn't
use that as any kind of metric, other than you now operate on even ground
with the other FAQs that have permission, as well.

As a FAQ maintainer, I appreciate almost any help, including other
authors posting their own thing. It makes my job easier, especially if
we could agree on focus, sharing, and references.

Heck, even if th' "other" author IS troublesome, there's always killfiles!
