The "FAQ book" project that we talked about earlier this year is still
a possibility, but it's not clear what exactly it will be. It will
probably be a combination of a book, CD-ROM, and Web pages. I've put
together a prototype of what the Web part of it could look like and
I'd like to get your feedback about it. The top page, which right now
I'm calling "FAQ Launcher Launcher," is at:

http://www.best.com/~ii/faqs/

The basic idea is to have a launcher for each FAQ that contains:

* a brief summary of the FAQ
* links to many different archives of the FAQ - the official site(s)
(if there is one), Utrecht, Oxford, Smart Pages, Ohio State, MIT, etc.
* other relevant information and links (but it's important we keep it
concise)

This way we will be working with the other FAQ archives, rather than
competing with them.

We'll have a database of launchers, one for each FAQ, and then create
Web pages that contain different collections of launchers. For example,
a page for launching:

* a single FAQ
* all FAQs...
- posted to a particular news group
- maintained by a particular person
- in a particular category (we need to decide on the categories)
- that match on a keyword

People all over the Net will be able link to these launchers.

Right now I've got this set up so that each individual launcher is a
table (so please use a browser that supports tables) and each launcher
is a .shtml file that uses server-side includes to import the
appropriate individual launchers. This way there is only one copy of
each launcher on the server.

Please take a look at the FAQ launchers I've got out there and send
feedback. There will be constant updates, so please check back
regularly, see how it evolves, and send more feedback.

Thanks,
Nancy
