I think it's great that we're moving towards a standard way for FAQ
maintainers to put pointers to:
* the primary location of the FAQ
* the maintainer's Web page
* related Web pages
* etc.
But I'm not sure that what Henk has proposed is the best. For example,
why not just use this in the auxiliary header:
Latest: http://some.site/some/file.html
Author's home page: http://some.site/some/file.html
This conveys the same information in less words and in a format that
will be more clear to users who are looking at the FAQ at a site
where the Utrecht translation has not been done.
I am still thinking about the FAQ Launcher project (and possible book
and CD-ROM) but I haven't been writing to you all because I've been
waiting to find out what's going to happen with O'Reilly & Associates.
I finally have some news: I'm going to become a full time employee of
ORA starting in January and I'm moving to Cambridge, Mass.! They are
excited about the FAQ project but they still haven't decided how much
time I'll be working on it and what kind of time frame we're looking
at. In any case, I think it's a good idea for us to come up with
some standard auxiliary headers for URLs. The ones that I currently
like are:
Official-FAQ-Location:

I just made some updates to the FAQ Launcher prototype and I welcome
any suggestions for it. It's at:
My ideas about headers and auxiliary headers are described in these
two pages:
http://www.best.com/~ii/faqs/help/
http://www.best.com/~ii/faqs/maintenance.txt
Please keep in mind that this is a prototype and there are
inconsistencies in the formatting because I've been experimenting
with different formats. Also note that when we do this for real we
will probably also have text-only launchers that look good in Lynx.
Thanks,
Nancy
