I agree, but with one suggested modification.
While would be a lot of contributors to this book, some one person, or a small
group of people are going to have to serve as editors. They are going to have
a lot of work to do. I think they will need to be paid.
The model I would suggest is that used by multi-authored text books (where
there are 1-3 editors plus many chapter authors). In these books, the editors
get 40-60% of the profits and the rest are distributed among the many chapter
authors, who get next to nothing.
So I would suggest:
1-The group that actually assembles, proofs, deals with the publisher, etc get
paid for their time by taking a large (50% or so) piece of any profits
2-The remainder be divided up among the other contributors with everyone
having the option of contributing their piece of the action (which would
individually be tiney) to rtfm.
