Well, let's look back at my original post:
>One idea occurs to me; what if FAQ maintainers got together and put
>together our own "Guide to Usenet Newsgroups" with appropriate bits
>from the FAQs and sold it as a book to a publisher? Royalties to go
>to upgrading rtfm.mit.edu perhaps?
Note the proposed title: "Guide to Usenet Newsgroups". While part of what
Nancy proposed would certainly be useful, what I had in mind was for the
various FAQ-keepers to write about what the groups their FAQs are associated
with are like, likely extracting relevant bits from their FAQs. In some
ways similar to that "Best of the Net" book, but with the FAQ-maintainers
determining what represents their group best. One could also include things
*not* to do in various newsgroups. Each entry would include pointers to
relevant FAQs.
Of course, while driving home last night, I also started envisioning an
introduction to the book that started with the words "This book is out of
date..." :-)
