Copyright notices?

The smaller special-interest stuff, and the .signature FAQ don't have one,
but my largest 1500+ line compilation which is half my work and half reader
submission and gleanings has one at the front, before the text. It primarily
says "please distribute at will as long as it's free - you charge and I get
mad". I *want* my information disseminated, elsewise I wouldn't post it at
all, but if I write something, or compile others' work, I take exception to
someone profiting by using our work.

That's the whole reason I started this latest discussion. I don't think the
issue anymore is so much that our work is being printed/reproduced without
permission, it's that someone out there is selling our work and keeping the
profits while we who put in all the time and effort in the first place are
inadvertently providing free service. That simply cannot go on.
CD-ROM and Internet books (they haven't even the intelligence half the time
to differentiate Internet and Usenet...) are the latest get-rich-quick
scheme and I resent being the means for this.
