AOL flat out said they wouldn't take it as it used dirty words and had
some naked pictures in it. (One of Marina Sirtis and a few of the now
dead porn star Savannah - - no hardcore in it al all, just nudes).
CompuServe, on the other hand, embraced it and plopped it in its ShowBiz
forum where it became the most downloaded file in the Multimedia section,
racking up over 5000 downloads (at 400K, at 14.4 bps, it would take 4.6
minutes to download, resulting in $0.37 per download; assuming current
rate structure of $4.80/hr for extended forums). Assume that half the
people were coming in at 14.4 and the others at 9600 (7 minutes per
download = resulting in approx $0.56 per download). With over 5000
downloads, they made ((2500 * .37) + (2500 * .56)) = $2325.00 in connect
time charges off of my selfless act of uploading it.
I would pop my head into the forum every so often when I was on CServe
for a vanity visit to see how mnay hits my FAQ had gotten. The last time
I went in, my FAQ was gone. There was no mail or messages explaining
where it had gone.
I sent SySop Don Devich an e-mail asking him what happened. His reply:
> Jeff, the forum owner (Eliot Stein 76703,305) deemed it to be outside
> the boundaries of good taste, and removed it himself.
> Thank you!

I then replied:

I have received no replies yet, though I am waiting....
Has anyone else such experiences with CServe or any of the online
services?
Thanks for letting me vent.

And now for something completely different:
Monty Python On Sound Business Practices:
If that idea of yours isn't worth a pound, I'd like to know what
is! The only trouble is, you gave me the idea before I'd given you
the pound, and that's not good business!
