The one message about this was correct in that these characters
indicate a (MIME) quoted-printable encoding.

However, the reason they just started getting added is because you
probably recently intentionally or unintentionally added some 8bit
characters to your FAQ and your MIME capable mailer is converting
the text to quoted-printable.

You could have added something with a tilde or umlaut.

Or, the Mac, for example, inserts a 8bit mac-secret-character to put
text into boldface or some font (you might sometimes see this as a
seemingly random series of numbers, e.g., \341, in the text). Does
the Atari do this also?

To find the problem, look into your converted FAQ and look for
"=nnn" where nnn is some conversion number.

I checked my comp.mail.mh FAQ and it wasn't converted. It's 91k
(whew, didn't realize it had gotten so big!)

Say it with MIME. and news.software.nn FAQs.
