"Subscribe alt.sex.wanted"
"My system doesn't carry alt groups...."
"Where can I get some GIF images, dude?"
Repeat at circa 2 MHz....

My solution was my "Son of FAQ" file, which answers the silly
questions I get as a result of my maintaining the alt.sex.wanted FAQ
file. Which consists mostly of responses to (IMHO) silly things over
on the alt.sex.wanted group. God help me if I need a SO-SO-FAQ.
Like the FAQ, which got started after the umteenth "Are there
any W0M3N?" post, this got started after I got twelve messages in one
day consisting soley of "subscribe alt.sex.wanted" in one form or another.
"This," quoth I, "Is fucking rediculous."
At which point I hit myself for the bad pun, went into vi, and
created a file saying "I AM NOT A MAILING LIST!!!". Which then got toned
down a bit, and expanded into something more helpful, and marginally more
polite. It gets revised as I identify a new category of frequent idiocy,
as I stumble across better information, and as I feel inspired to fix
typos.
I don't quite yet need this as an autoresponse via procmail,
and am leery of doing so, on the off chance that some of the random
people I chat with might set it off. But having a few pre-made answers
handy saves loads of time typing, and I *STRONGLY* recommend it.
Now, one of these days we'll start a generally available archive
of all of these automatic responses... which will then need their own
set of automatic responses.... =)
