It was suggested to have the Approved: line inserted before posting it
like a regular piece of news, thus bypassing the listserv's moderating
function.

This does indeed work, and is done with my FAQ (rec.music.gaffa, which
is a moderated newsgroup where the moderator exists as the mailing list address).
I just post my FAQ, containing an Approved: line for all of the relevant
newsgroups (r.m.gaffa, r.m.info and *.answers), though technically any Approved:
line would do except for a) bad style and b) some human or artificial intelligence
noticing it and complaining about it. Of course I have the approval of all
people involved, which is a) the *.answers team, b) the real moderator of
r.m.gaffa (who doesn't filter out any article posted anyway, the moderation is
only for the mailing list and the archive that's also connected to it, c) the
love-hounds (r.m.gaffa's name as a mailing list) people who not only didn't
want to fill the archives, but also didn't want to read it & pay for it once a
month. Mailing list readers do get a copy of the FAQ when they're signing up,
and I also go through the work to produce a human readable FAQ-diff which is
posted to r.m.gaffa and love-hounds (but not to *.answers). This posting is
even read by those who would be able to write their own FAQ, and by such quite
useful to a) 'oldbies' and b) find errors I introduced into the FAQ.

Bye,

Uli
