Hi,

My first try of looking for contributors resulted in many questions
about the META-FAQ CD-Rom, so please have a look into that new
posting here, and tell me, if there are still mistakes or things to
misunderstand before I e-mail this to the rest of the FAQ-maintainers
I know.

If this is the first time you here from that projects, feel free
to contribute with your FAQ too, but please send it then over via
e-mail plus a filled AUTHORIZATION FORM.

Many thnx to all that help fixing problems, Phade

THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC MAILING. SO, IF YOU GET MAILED A FEW TIMES
YOU E-MAIL-ADRESS WAS THERE A FEW TIMES (different files ?). IF
YOU ALREADY DISAGREE TO THIS PROJECTS, FORGIVE ME, THERE
ARE MORE THAN 2000 AUTHORS, AND JUST THROW AWAY THIS MAIL !

Hallo,

I am preparing right now a CD-Rom, that will demonstrate the use
of the Internet to those, that are NOT familiar with on-line
services. But like it is, in demonstrations you have the connection
to the Internet, but if you want to give the audience something
to take home, you're lost !

That's why I'm creating that CD-Rom, it will present several services
and lots of information from the Internet directly from the CD-Rom
WITHOUT beeing connected.

While I was snooping through the net, I found your "FAQ"

<archive-name>
<last-modified-date>

and think it will be useful to be included into that CD-Rom
project.

I HEREBY LIKE TO ASK YOU IF YOU WOULD ALLOW ME TO INCLUDE
THAT "FAQ" INTO THE CD-ROM OR NOT !

--------------------------------------------

Please take your time and fill that AUTHORIZATION FORM below,
and send it back to me (the best would be via air-mail paper-letter
and signed, but e-mail would do to, maybe PGP-signed ?). Please cut
the FORM out and send only that, I do not need the description of
the project again, because I wrote it ;o)

If you cannot live with that agreement, you're not sure where that
information in your file was coming from or you just don't want
to be included, please reply to this e-mail and add a big -NO!
to the end of the subject. Please do NOT send the complete file
back to me ! I already have it, and we all want to reduce the
load on the Internet ;o)

--------------------------------------------

Here are more problem solvers (it's a small FAQ already ;o):

Q: You are making a commercial project from non-commercial source.
Do you think that's ok ?
A: Sure, this CD-Rom is a commercial project, I'm not getting rich
with that, due of a very low selling price, but I DO make my
living with that. Everybody is free to say NO, I don't have problems
with that fact at all, lots of my companies research is floating
back to the net, without any charge.

Q: What's about a free copy for the authors ?
A: Due of the tight price calculation (and the fee's that I have
to pay to some software distributors), it will not be possible
for me to pay you anything for the inclusion of that file, nor
will I be able to send you a free copy, when it will be finished
(production, advertising and graphic design cost a lot too).
I can calculate a low special price for contributors, but that's
for later ...

Q: What's the real problem with that free copy for the authors ?
A: I really cannot send authors in Asia or Amerika a copy, because
of the software license fees (about $8) and the postage to these
countries (horrible $18 right now, the dollar is dropping and dropping
and is has to go via Air-Mail, so that it arrives in about 10 days
instead of 8 weeks !) to give the authors a chance to disagree.

And if I send on author I have to send ALL, everything else will
be unfair ! People already complained, if something like this will
happen !!!

There were some ideas out to fix that mailing problem (like sending
all CD-Rom's in one packet to the US, but that kind of parcel will
be of interest for officials and robbers !, or sending them over Belgium,
but I don't know how that will be cheaper). They did not work out so
far ... any more ideas ?

Q: How will I get my Author-CD-Rom ?
A: If the author can cover the postage, he will get a CD for a special
price (just paying the fees !). I will contact the contributors right
on time ...

Q: Do you think that any of the FAQ-maintainers will agreed with what
you are doing ?
A: YES ! The project is on the go and will work out, with or without you ;o)
About 65 FAQ's are already included, and they are really interesting !
And there are already 50 other FAQ's waiting to get worked in.
So 115 maintainers contributed out of 350, I original mailed to.
And from the 235 left, more that 50 mails failed, only 80 disagreed
(cos they did not like it, or could not get the permissions from
their contributors) and the others didn't answer.

And there are more that 1500 other faq-maintainers left, that I gonna
mail soon ...

Q: How can I check changes or the HTML-Version of the FAQ ?
A: I will put a BETA-Version online, so that the authors can re-check the
changes !

Q: Will my FAQ be damaged ?
A: I will keep a unchanged version of the FAQ on the CD-Rom
and reformat a copy of it, to build a HTML-version !
But sure, I will cut useless mail-headers or seperating lines
of it, and concatenate all parts into one file. Sure, one
mail-header will be included.

Q: Can I send you a FAQ in a different format ?
A: I have to consist on a ASCII-version of the FAQ, because
I have to automate the process of building the databases
(no more details to that, cos then I can tell everybody how
to do it right away ;o)

Q: You are paying the software developers, but not the contributors !
A: Some people don't like the idea, that I will pay the programming
and fees for the software, but don't like to pay the money to send
the contributors free CD's. That's cos without that software the
CD-Rom will be boring, dull and not sellable at all and I am not
able to write that software alone ! And on the other end I am
not willing to spend money, that is not going into the project and
let the German Post get richer and richer ...

Q: Will you flood me with any more mails ?
A: Sorry, if you get this message a few times. But maybe you are
maintaining several files belonging to own FAQ or you wrote a
few FAQ's.

I will get in contact with every contributing author again,
to look for HTML-versions of the ASCII-FAQ, to give infos about
the online-BETA-Version, final pricing and availability, so be
aware of a few more mails from me. I WANT to have the authors
informed.

Q: I don't like to give you all these personal infos with the form !
How is that dialed ?
A: You DON'T have to fill the form completly. Name, e-mail-adress
and faq-filename, archive-name and date of birth are required,
evereything else is just for the contact between me and the author
and will NOT be published ! The date of birth is need, to see
if you are old enough to sign such a agreement.

Q: Can I send you the newest version of the FAQ via mail ?
A: Yes, please. That would be extremly nice and protect
me from having problems with downloads. The author's
copy is always the best. Please choose a good Subject specifying
your mail (like: New Version of FAQ: <faq-name>, send
ONE mail including all parts, send a ASCII-version or
if compressed, don't forget to uuencode it.

Please send a filled AUTHORIZATION FORM in a response to
this mail. A FAQ without a AUTHORIZATION FORM cannot be accepted !

Q: Heh, I have a HTML-Version online, do you not want to take that too ?
A: NO ! Cos it's nearly impossible to automate a download of a complete
HTML-filetree without the html-server to cooperate on this.

If you want to contribute with an extra HTML-version of your FAQ,
feel free to do that and send a uuencoded, whatever-compressed
whatever-archived file containing all HTML-pages and pictures to
the mail-address below. Opps, wrong, MAC-archives can't be accepted,
I don't have a MAC :o(

Just be sure, YOU are the author of that file or have the copyright !
Thinks twice about that, before mailing me pictures !!!

Q: Can I send you other files like movies, sound or pictures ??
A: Yes, please ! You can send me any pictures, movies, songs and sounds
or any other digital material that you want to include. Because I am
going to use a hypertext-system to present the Internet, I can include
nearly everything. Please send any files via e-mail (binary
files "uuencoded", no splitting needed) and set the title of
the e-mail to something like that:

<filename>-includes-<subfilename>-at-line-<linenumber>

where filename is the file of the requested file, subfilename
is the name of new file you're sending and linenumber is the line
in the requested file, where you want to include that new file, so f.e.

FOOBAR.TXT-includes-MYFACE.JPG-at-line-122

Just be sure, YOU are the author of that file or have the copyright !

Q: I cannot live with the AUTHORIZATION FORM, can I change it ?
A: No, the form has to be used like it is, or my laywer will kill me !
If you have problems with whatever sentence, please mail me before
agreeing.

--------------------------------------------

On the other end I am quite sick of explaining the whole project.
If I explain ANY more, everybody will be able to do the same and
my whole research, test-programming, mailing and all that will be
for nothing.

Who doesnt like the project like it is, is free to say NO, I respected
all NO's soo far and there are already enough contributors to give that
projects a chance. Thnx to them !!

If you want to e-mail me about anything else or you have comments,
hints or whatever else, feel free to do that, but do it in an
extra mail. Thnx.

Thnx for your interest and I would be happy to include
your material, Phade
