No, we're not exactly all on vacation. A number of us are graduate
students, and it seems this term those of us who are students are
much more hosed with end of term stuff than is usual. Others have
deadlines at work, etc.
In addition (mea culpa) I personally made a mistake about a week ago
in pulling quite a large number of entries (including yours) out of
our submission queue, without processing them. I will be going through
those entries this evening ("miles to go before I sleep"), after which
the queue will be back to "normal" (which currently is running about
10 days behind real-time).
Finally, the number of submissions we receive has steadily increased
in the past several months and continues to increase.
If any of you might be interested in joining the *.answers moderation
team, please contact us via separate email (news-answers-request), and
we will fill you in on what it entails.

P.S. As to why you had to resubmit to get approval to get your FAQ
resplit, I'll take a look and see why. Whether that is needed or not
sometimes depends on how much change there is to headers, etc.
