A recommendation to all: Don't give them/him permission.

1) It makes no direct contribution to the internet community.

2) The new work WILL be copyrighted, and you can bet that it won't be freely
avaible in LaTeX (or any other) form on the net.

3) It legally closes the road for any free effort along these lines which IS a
benefit to the internet community.

The motive is all wrong. They're turning the free and charitable efforts of
many individuals into a profit making venture whose direction is contrary to the
direction of the FAQ writers.

-Morgan

PS: If they decide to made the book freely available on their own FTP sight and
make no claims to the FAQ derived material in it, they'll have my blessing
to make as much money as they like in the bookstores.
