Several people have complained that this nomenclature makes it impossible for
them to retrieve these files by FTP from the archieve at MIT. See message
below:
How are other people dealing with this??

Many UNIX systems have trouble with a '/' character in a file name,
as the '/' is used (by default) as the separator for directories
