(This message is BCC'd to faq-maintainers-announce.)

The newest version of post_faq, patch level 8, is now available at
ftp://rtfm.mit.edu/pub/post_faq. The file post_faq.patch8 contains a
patch to upgrade from patch level 7 to patch level 8; the file
post_faq.shar contains the complete patch level 8 distribution. Since
post_faq.patch8 is almost as big as post_faq.shar, I recommend just
retrieving the new version unless you want to see exactly what changes
have been made. You can also retrieve it via
mail-server@rtfm.mit.edu.

As part of my preparations to spend a year in Israel starting this
fall and to hand over the *.answers moderation duties to the team I've
been assembling, I'm handing over control of the post_faq package to
that team. Therefore, any problems with it or questions, comments or
suggestions about it should be sent to news-answers-request@mit.edu.

People who beta-tested the cron-like interval feature which is new to
patch level 8 should retrieve the new release, because there have been
bug fixes and additional enhancements since the beta release.

The following significant changes have been made in patch level 8:

* Posting intervals can now be specified as cron-like intervals
represented as Perl expressions, in addition to the old style of
just specifying the number of days between postings. For example,
it's now possible to say, "This FAQ should be posted on the 17th of
every month," or, "This FAQ should be posted on the first monday of
every month."
* The man page has been updated to document the new interval
expression feature.
* The man page has been updated to document that it's not necessary to
use @...@ escapes to insert the Message-ID and Supersedes fields
into an FAQ, because post_faq.pl does that automatically.
* A sample configuration file, "config.sample", has been added to the
distribution.
* The README file has been rewritten; it is now a bit more
comprehensive and includes the contact address fro the package.
* The config.dat.in file now sets news-answers-request@mit.edu as the
"maintainer" by default, and includes the new "expire_search"
configuration parameter.
* A usage message has been added to post_faq.pl.
* The "-h" flag will no longer be added to the inews command if it's
specified on the command line.
* The Makefile has been enhanced in various minor ways.
