Lest anyone scoff at this, FidoNet is actually still filling
an important need in the networked world. No, *I* wouldn't
want to touch it with a ten-foot pole, but there are a lot
of people who communicate on it on a regular basis. In
fact, a large portion of the recent soc.genealogy.*
reorganization had to take into account the fact that a
large number of genealogical researchers use Fido echoes as
a serious means of communication, and it was important for
us not to disenfranchise them.
