This is a common, but incorrect, belief. Under U.S. law, all creative
works are automatically protected by copyright whether they bear a
copyright statement or not. The absence of such a statement does not
grant any sort of permission to anyone.
Would-be publishers should assume that they *cannot* copy a given work
unless they are expressly granted permission by the copyright owner.
