On the other hand, if I only post one of the 5 parts of my FAQ, then
I am flooded by 'Where is part x' where x is one of the other parts.
Also, by posting all of the parts together, I am able to expire them
away altogether.

What I would love to see is other multi-part FAQs post their items
as threaded news items, but unless the parts are really independant,
it seems like it would be more bother to do it this way.
